Fagrie Lakay’s Pyramids will face Percy Tau’s Al Ahly in the Egyptian Super Cup after Zamalek controversially withdrew from the competition.
Initially, Zamalek were supposed to face Al Ahly in a clash between the defending league winners and the Egyptian Cup champions on Friday in United Arab Emirates.
However, The White Knights announced a day ago that they won’t be travelling to UAE for the clash because they are unhappy over the ruling of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) regarding Al Ahly’s Kahraba.
In April, the Disciplinary Committee of the EFA fined Kahraba a massive 1-million Egyptian Pound and suspended him for 12 matches for allegedly chanting insults about his former club Zamalek in January.
But, after Al Ahly appealed the ban Kahraba has been cleared to appear in the Super Cup, with EFA ruling to only look at the matter after a local court meets on 14 May, as per Kingfut.
As a consequence, the EFA decided in a meeting on Wednesday morning regarding the matter to let Pyramids travel to UAE and face Al Ahly SC on Friday after finishing as runners-up in the league.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly SC are already in the Middle East to prepare for their 13th Super Cup final.
South Africans will witness their two Bafana Bafana stars, Percy Tau and Fagrie Lakay performing against each other in the final, which is scheduled to kick off at 18h30 South African time on Friday, 5 May.
Pyramids were recently knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals by Marumo Gallants, while Al Ahly booked their place in the semi-final of the CAF Champions League and they will face Esperance.
