There might be a new turnaround of fortunes for defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele at AmaZulu after he had initially been informed that his contract will not be renewed at the end of the season, but that might change again, iDiski Times has learnt.
In March, Mphahlele was one of three players alongside Keagan Buchanan and Lehlohonolo Majoro, who were informed by Usuthu management that the club will not renew their contracts at the end of the season, as reported by iDiski Times.
However, that was when coach Romain Folz was in charge of the club, with all three players leaving the Usuthu camp, as they were deemed surplus to requirements by the French coach.
But, with Usuthu struggling to get results, Folz was redeployed early last month to the technical advisor role until the end of the season and Ayanda Dlamini, who was Folz’s assistant, was named as the caretaker coach.
Dlamini informed the club’s management to recall them and all three players are again part of the squad until the end of this season.
Mphahlele rewarded Dlamini’s faith by scoring the second goal as Usuthu beat Sekhukhune United 2-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. He also claimed the Man of the Match award after netting his second league goal for AmaZulu this season.
According to iDiski Times sources, Mphahlele might stay beyond this term and coach Dlamini strengthened that point on Saturday as he named him as the skipper of the team in the absence of Veli Mothwa.
Dlamini, though, added that the decision whether or not the club keep the defender beyond this season will not be made by him but it will be done by president Sandile Zungu.
“I brought him [Mphahlele] back because we need him for the last games they gave me, and that was my decision,” said Dlamini.
“We need him until the end of the season. What goes beyond that, [I don’t know]. I can say how I feel, but at the end of the day, the president will make that decision.
“For me I’m happy the president agreed to bring him back with Buchanan, so they are helping the team as we speak.
“What happens after that, I cannot even comment on that because I don’t know what his decision is. It is between the president, the board and the player himself.”
