Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has equalled one of the most successful coaches at the club, Ruud Krol’s record.
Krol guided Pirates to a double treble during the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons, winning all local trophies on offer.
The Dutch mentor identified the Buccaneers as playing an exciting brand of football.
PIRATES INCONSISTENT
Despite winning the hearts of many Pirates supporters, the club did not renew Krol’s contract and surprisingly let him go at the end of the 2011/12 campaign.
Meanwhile, Riveiro was appointed as Pirates’ head coach at the start of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.
The Spaniard had an impressive start to his coaching tenure at Pirates after winning the 2022 MTN8 early in the season.
However, the Buccaneers have struggled for consistency in the league, with Mamelodi Sundowns continuing to dominate. The Brazilians won their sixth successive title.
In recent games, the Soweto giants have regained top form and are on a six-match winning streak in the league.
With Pirates finding their winning form, Riveiro has equalled the record of Krol, Roy Barreto and Josef Zinnbauer.
JOSE RIVEIRO REACHES NEW MILESTONE AT ORLANDO PIRATES
“Jose Riveiro has won six consecutive DStv Premiership games, equalling Roy Barreto [2002], Ruud Krol [2011] and Josef Zinnbauer [2020] for the longest winning streak for Orlando Pirates in the PSL,” revealed OptaJabu.
Furthermore, Bucs beat TS Galaxy 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Mbombela Stadium. The result moved them second on the log and kept their CAF Champions League qualification hopes alive.
Pirates have won 15 games in the league, drawing four. They have lost eight times after 27 games and accumulated 49 points.
SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs are breathing behind Pirates in the chase for the runners-up position.
