Sekhukhune United beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at the Peter Mokhaba Stadium on Sunday, seriously denting Amakhosi’s hopes of finishing in the CAF Champions League spot.
Sekhukhune scored the opener early in the game, with Sammy Seabi shooting past Brandon Petersen in the fourth minute.
The game was an even affair for large parts, with Chiefs struggling to really test Sekhukhune goalkeeper Ali Sangare.
Over the 90 minutes, Arthur Zwane’s man failed to create any real openings, and have now fallen five points behind Orlando Pirates in second place with just four matches remaining.
Zwane had given Cole Alexander a first start in 2023 but the Glamour Boys were never in control of the midfield battle.
The Chiefs coach tried to throw more attacking power on the pitch, bringing on Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana in the 62nd minute but his side remained toothless.
Sekhukhune, meanwhile, moved into sixth spot with 35 points after completing the double over Chiefs.
The Glamour Boys remained on 41 points, three behind SuperSport United in third spot and five behind their Soweto rivals.
