Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has explained why Keagan Dolly left the pitch in tears in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United, before discussing his decision to hand Cole Alexander a rare start.
Dolly had been one of the standout performers for Chiefs in their recent run, but – much like the rest of his teammates – wasn’t able to create any real danger against Sekhukhune on Sunday.
After 62 minutes, Dolly was replaced by Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana and left the pitch in tears, with Zwane confirming the winger asked to come off.
“He signalled to us that he’s got a problem with his knee,” he said when asked by iDiski Times.
“We’ll wait for the medical team for the report, then we’ll take it from there.”
Zwane also discussed why he opted to hand midfielder Cole Alexander a first start in 2023, in the absence of the suspended Siyethemba Sithebe.
“We had to manage Cole, he’s been out of the game for quite some time,” he added.
“Obviously he needed to boost his confidence. We didn’t expect him to play for 90 minutes.
“We’re managing him, 60 minutes was going to be enough for him.”
