Lekay Surfaces At New Club After City Exit

Former Cape Town City striker Wayde Lekay has been spotted training with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town Spurs

The 25-year-old was on trials at Kaizer Chiefs before the season started but he didn’t convince Arthur Zwane and he was let go.

A few weeks later he appeared at Royal AM but was eventually signed by City as their new striker after he had become a free agent following his exit from TS Galaxy.

But things didn’t seem to work for the Cape Town-born striker despite making 14 appearances in all competitions during which he scored one goal and assisted on one occasion.

But after just six months later he was released by Cape Town City after arrivals of Juan Zapata and Bertrand Mani, with the former TS Galaxy striker finding himself without a team again.

He has now been spotted training with Cape Town Spurs and he was part of the side that participated in a friendly match against Cape Town City, which the DStv Premiership side won 1-0 thanks to a goal of Gambian international Kajally Drammeh.

With four games to go before the league finishes, Lekay is expected to train with the Urban Warriors, who are fighting for promotion, for the rest of the season before a decision on his future will be made.
