Swallows Aiming To Retain Key Player

Swallows are aiming to retain one of their influential players Tlakusani Mthethwa beyond this season after an impressive 2022/23 season.

The 29-year-old midfielder has missed only two of their games this season and has been a rare shining light as they battle to retain their top-flight status.

It’s been a campaign to forget on and off the field but Mthethwa is leading to the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel with a couple of league games remaining.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the current season, his future was up in the air due to missing the entire 2021/22 campaign through injury, but interim coach Musa Nyatama says if it were up to him, he would be tied down to a new deal.

“Look Mthethwa is a very important member of our team, he’s our skipper, Wambi is not here, we gave him the responsibility of the team,” Nyatama said.

“The possibilities of him staying, are very high – but the management will decide on that – I can only recommend letting him stay but it’s up to management, and also if we don’t have a proper offer for him [from other clubs], we can keep him for a long time.”

The defensive midfielder is currently one of their longest-serving players and played an integral part in their squad on their journey to return to the top-flight.
