Rulani Gives Zungu Update – iDiski Times

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has given an update on Bongani Zungu after he had to be substituted in the first half of their draw against Golden Arrows.

Zungu only recently came back from injury and started his first league game of the season, but had to be taken off after 25 minutes.

He was left bloodied in the face after he challenged a ball following a corner, with Sundowns down to 10 man when Arrows’ opener was scored.

But the 30-year-old wasn’t able to continue and was replaced by Sipho Mbule, who scored Downs equaliser in the second half and earned some praise by his coach.

“It’s a deep cut just underneath the eye, a little bit swollen,” Mokwena said when asked by iDiski Times about Zungu’s injury.

“But I’m proud of the kid, I’m proud of [Siyabonga] Mabena, I’m proud of Mbule, who did very, very well when he came on. Proud of Lebo [Maboe] also, proud of Terrence [Mashego], he fought.

“Yeah, we have to go, we have to do better in Stellenbosch to win the match.”

Sundowns, who have now drawn three successive DStv Premiership matches since being confirmed as champions with seven games to spare, now turn their focus to the Nedbank Cup, where they will face Stellenbosch FC in the quarter-final on Saturday in Cape Town.
