Two Former Pirates Stars Shine In Botswana

Two former Orlando Pirates players, Sifiso Myeni and Rooi Mahamutsa are pushing VTM Football Club for promotion in Botswana.

Myeni was signed by VTM at the beginning of the season on a one-year-deal. His move came as a surprise to many South African football supporters after he had been without a club since leaving TS Sporting in the South African second division in 2020.

The former Bidvest Wits captain has been phenomenal for his new side as he’s got 12 goal contribution in 17 games of the league.

Mahamutsa was asked by the club chairman to go motivate the players of VTM early in February, and impressed so much that the club opted to sign the veteran defender.

The 41-year-old has since impressed in leading the team from the back and making sure they keep clean sheets. They did, though, suffer a huge blow when they were knocked out of the Orange FA Cup by Mochudi Centre Chiefs, which led to the firing of the coach Nelson Olebile.

This is VTM’s first season in the Botswana second tier after gaining promotion last season.

They are currently sitting third in the standings with 31 points after 17 games, with the top side gaining automatic promotion to the Botswana Premier League, while second placed will go into a playoff round.

They are six points behind log leaders Matebele FC and just one behind second-placed side Crackit City Polar with five games to go.
