Kekana – There’s Still Something To Play For In The League

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana says there’s no time to rest despite wrapping up the DStv Premiership title already.

Sundowns secured their sixth consecutive league crown before their 2-1 win over Coton Sport in the CAF Champions League this weekend.

It marked an incredible way to wrap things up as SuperSport United were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Kekana shared some insight into what the squad has been doing since the new filtered into the squad.

“Obviously we played the CAF Champions League game [on Saturday], most of us did recovery, and the others were training on Sunday before preparation for Cape Town City,” he said ahead of the return to league action.

“At Sundowns we play every game to win so it will be the same [mentality] going into the City game [to win]. We don’t want to get complacent, there’s still much to play for.

“As much as we won the league, there are things like records we’re willing to break and standards we’ve set ourselves at the beginning of the season to see if we can achieve them and that’s what will motivate us to go on and keep winning games.”

He’s warned his teammates and those expecting Masandawna to roll City over, that Eric Tinkler’s side will be a massive challenge – as they showed at the same stage of last season in a run that saw them pip second place over Orlando Pirates.

“City is a good team, they will come out guns blazing, I think they also want to reach their target of last season where they managed to finish second, so it will be tough but we’ll prepare well to give it another go,” he added.

“We’ve been enjoying the support we’re getting at the stadium [Loftus Versveld], we hope to see even more numbers each and every game at home, they sing their hearts out and become our 12th man.”

Sundowns host City on Tuesday evening at Loftus at 19h30 before travelling to Soweto on Sunday to face Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium at 15h30.
