With five games to go in the season, Casric Stars moved into pole position in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, going three points ahead of Polokwane City and Cape Town Spurs.

Stars, who are now unbeaten in their last 16 league games, returned to the top of the log as Lehlogonolo Mojela’s goal gave them a 1-0 win over La Masia on Saturday.

Polokwane City returned to second place, as they moved ahead of Cape Town Spurs on goal difference after a goalless draw against AmaTuks.

Spurs, who went into the weekend in the top spot, lost 2-0 away to JDR Stars 2-0. Former Ajax Cape Town striker Prince Nxumalo opened the scoring, with Ishmail Wada adding the second.

Pretoria Callies beat Venda Football Academy 1-0, thanks to a fantastic free kick from Oswin Appollis.

Muzi Khanyi grabbed a  late winner for Hungry Lions against Uthongathi, to pick up a 1-0 win at home.

On Sunday, Black Leopards’ relegation woes grew stronger as the bottom-of-the-log team lost 1-0 to Baroka, Sidney Malivha scoring the winner in the second half.

15th-placed Tshakhuma are also still in danger but did pick up a point as they drew 2-2 with All Stars, while Magesi picked up an important three points with a 1-0 win over Platinum City Rovers, who remain just out of the relegation spots in 14th.

A huge fixture will be played this coming Friday at Athlone Stadium, as Spurs host Casric, in a top-of-the-table clash.
