Foster – What Tau Told Me About Kompany

Burnley and Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster has revealed what national teammate Percy Tau about told him about working with Vincent Kompany after he signed for the Clarets.

Tau worked with the former Manchester City captain while on loan at Anderlecht during the 2020/21 campaign and Foster is now under his care in the English Championship.

Foster and Tau are currently with the South African senior national team preparing for the crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Liberia.

They had different fortunes in the 2-2 draw at home, with Foster scoring a brace, while Tau missed several good chances to extend Bafana’s lead before Liberia struck back to salvage a draw.

Speaking to iDiski Times correspondent Joe Crann in edition 94 of the newspaper, the former Orlando Pirates forward says Tau was full of praise for his former coach.

“I didn’t speak to Percy before I came, but I did speak to him afterwards and he told me how Vinny was as his coach, and what a lovely coach he was. He told me to learn a lot and stay patient,” Foster told iDiski Times.

“The mentality that the manager brings to games, he’s a serial winner and I think that rubs off on you. I’m enjoying it.

“I’ve played against his teams in Belgium, and it was tough, you chase the ball a lot. So I was very excited coming here, having somebody like him every day, and someone like Craig Bellamy who I grew up watching as a coach. It’s lovely to learn from them every day.”
