Bafana Announce Starting XI For Liberia

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced his starting XI to face Liberia in their must-win Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

South Africa, who are in 67th place in the FIFA rankings, host the 150th-placed Lone Stars at Orlando Stadium at 18:00 today.

South Africa enter the game on the back of three wins in their last four friendly games, but having lost their AFCON qualification opener 2-1 in Morocco.

Liberia, meanwhile, lost 3-0 to Egypt and drew 0-0 with Niger in their recent friendlies, while losing 2-0 to Morocco in the AFCON qualification.

Due to the fact that there are only three teams in the group, with Zimbabwe still suspended from international football, Morocco have already all but qualified.

The consolation also means that the winner of the clashes between South Africa and Liberia will qualify as second team from Group K.

Broos will be keen to extend his overall positive record following eight wins, three draws and just three defeats in his first 14 games in charge since replacing Molefe Ntseki in 2021.

Here is how they line up:

South Africa XI: Williams, Morena, Mvala, Xulu, Modiba, Le Roux, Mokoena, Zwane, Hlongwane, Tau, Foster.

Subs: Mobbie, Maela, Timm, Saleng, Goss, Sithole, Mothwa, Lepasa, Kekana, Mailula, Sibisi, Mayambela

Liberia XI: Songo’s, Balde, Dweh, Arago, Pabai, Kennen, Adukor, Kamara, Tisdell, Dorley, Jebor

Subs: Deanneh, Marculey, Njie, Logan, Salmon, Kah, Tisdell, Wilson, Sagare
