CT City Star Attracting European Interest

Cape Town City midfielder Brice Ambina has been named in the Cameroon U23 squad set to face Gabon and is attracting widespread interest across Europe already.

It’s been one year since the Cameroon international arrived in South Africa and it marks, in a way, an opportunity to review what he’s brought to local football.

There have been question marks surrounding the standard of foreign talent arriving within our shores but Ambina certainly fits the bill as one of the more impressive additions.

High energy, tenacious in the tackle, good passing range, he appears to be developing into a high-level number 6 and potentially an 8 in future – which is showcased by being one of the first names on Eric Tinkler’s team sheet at the age of 21.

“I feel extremely well in Cape Town. I have adapted very well to the country, the life and the club. I was lucky to have an excellent welcome from the club, teammates, and fans,” Ambina told iDiski Times about his stay in South Africa so far.

“It’s allowed me to work serenely and to blossom. I adapted easily to this new team because the tactical system of the team suited me well. The confidence of coach Eric Tinkler and the staff also played a lot in my adaptation. The rest is just [hard] work.”

Ambina, is said to be attracting interest from clubs in France, Belgium Turkey and Hungary, and it was no surprise to have seen him named in the preliminary 2022 FIFA World Cup squad by Rigobert Song last year before heading to Qatar.

While he didn’t make the final cut, he played a part in their U23 side beating Angola to advance to the next round of Africa Cup of Nations/Olympics qualifiers.

“It was obviously a pleasure to see that I was pre-called with the senior team for the World Cup and it was also a pleasure and an honor to play the qualification for the [AFCON] U23s,” Ambina said.

“I hope to be called up soon to the senior national team because it is an honor for any footballer to represent his country at the highest level.

“As for my future, thanks to my daily work and the maturity I have acquired, I think I am ready for a new challenge, but for the moment I am completely focused on my work with Cape Town City and on the current season.

“I [will] continue to work hard, and I don’t ask myself any questions. The hard work every day, my good entourage, and my seriousness will eventually pay off.”
