Chippa United defender Matome Mathiane has allayed fears of his head injury after clashing with Sekhukhune United’s defender Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya in the DStv Premiership at Peter Mokaba Stadium on the weekend.

Mathiane, who joined Chippa from Golden Arrows, told iDiski Times that he was not left concussed though he was admitted at Netcare Pholoso Hospital in Polokwane for further assessment.

The 34-year-old had his head bandaged, looking to have suffered a cut on top of his left eye and when the incident happened, the blood streamed down on his face.

His fellow teammate Thabiso Lebitso quickly called on the club medical department to stop the bleeding before he was taken off in the 60th minute and replaced by Azola Ntsabo.

Mathiane had just come on before the second half started, replacing veteran midfielder Andile Mbenyane.

“I wasn’t concussed,” said Mathiane.

“And it is not bad and I will be fine,” he added.

It was a Nigerian show in that game as Chibuike Ohizo scored for the home side after 26 minutes, but his fellow countryman Etiosa Ighodaro equalised just three minutes for Chilli Boys.

While Sekhukhune had a chance to win the game, they couldn’t convert as another Nigerian Chippa goalie Stanley Nwabali starred, diving to his right to save a late penalty of Zambian Roderick Kabwe, to see the spoils shared.

This means Sekhukhune are yet to beat Chippa in four matches in the top flight.
