Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says he’s identified several new players for the next generation squad that could have massive futures in the national team.

With Kodisang omitted from the final squad after being named in the 35-man preliminary squad last week, Broos stated the level of the Portuguese second-tier might be a risk to throw the 23-year-old into crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

However, he’s stated ‘Koba’ will be given chances in the near future along with another player in the same division.

“You know it’s a very good thing the overseas players are playing in their teams, we all know the competitions there, most of them, not every player but for most of them abroad are in competitions stronger than here [in the PSL],” Broos said.

“So they progress a lot [faster], we need that because playing with Bafana Bafana is not the level of the PSL, it’s even another level than [CAF] Champions League, so we need those players who have those experience for very intense games.

“So it’s a lot of work hey, every Monday to look what the players did and some players, new players we found, to see the games, like for example [Nkanyiso] Shinga at SC Covilhã in Portugal, a left-back, a young player.

“We’re monitoring him, following him, Kodisang is doing good, so it’s a lot of work but worth it because you can find better players than you have at this moment for certain positions, so we go on with that – so let’s hope we find better players because that means the level will increase also.”

With Thapelo Maseko dropping down to the U23 squad set to face Congo Brazzaville in a doubleheader for a place at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations, he named the standout players from SuperSport United alongside him that’s also made his radar for future selections.

“Maseko, good player, there’s a few players, Maseko, Margeman, Johannes, those are players who are doing well in their team,” Broos said.

“So they deserve a selection in the preliminary selection, they are not ready, still not ready to play for Bafana Bafana, but that means for them, that they know we follow them and that we will give them chances if they are ready for it – I think those are players for the moment who are showing it.

“Certainly Maulila is showing something special but also a young player who has come to the surface so we’re following these young guys very closely and we’ll see in the future; Johannes, Margeman or Maseko can make the step for Bafana. But they will play now the U23 in Congo next week, so okay next step for them now.”
