A recent publication of court papers from February 28, 2023, revealed that a rate of 18.75 per cent interest was to be calculated daily and compounded monthly starting from July 11, 2022.

A source from the outlet stated that Phungwayo had not recovered financially since his last club signing in 2019. Before that, he had been a part of the Pirates team in 2017 and stayed with Free State Stars for two years.

Another source said that Phungwayo is working hard not to lose his car.

“We told him that instead of avoiding their calls he must just arrange payments with them, no bank wants to take your car unless you run away from there,” the source was quoted as saying.

In November 2021, the police apprehended Phungwayo for reportedly being involved in robberies and theft in Johannesburg. A close source reported that the 35yearold had stolen goods in his possession and the car hijacking of an Audi from Bramley and a Kia from Linden.

When appearing in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court, Phungwayo was granted R5 000 bail, according to KickOff. Joe Seanego, a close friend, told the publication that Phungwayo‘s charges had been reduced from stage five to stage one.
