SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt says at no point did he set his team to shut up shop for a point after their 1-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates on Saturday evening.
Tapelo Xoki’s late penalty saw Pirates cut the gap on second place SuperSport to a slim two points with seven rounds of fixtures remaining.
And with the CAF Champions League qualification race now heating up with Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City still potentially in the mix, Hunt cut a frustrated figure in a press conference that lasted less than five minutes with the media.
“We lost, disappointed, very disappointed but that’s football and you know the penalty against us, we had quite a few this season, so, you know disappointed,” Hunt said in the post-match press conference at Orlando Stadium.
Having been pictured remonstrating with officials after the full-time whistle he stated he and his technical team went to say ‘well done’ for a good game and went on to deny they were looking to secure a point only at Esgodini.
“No we never, if you see how we set our team up, we tried to win the game, I thought we had all the opportunities, didn’t win – you know, and then ya, there’ was no thought of [closing shop] for the point.”
SuperSport will face off against Chippa United next at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium after the FIFA International break.
