After announcing the SA Under 23 squad for the CAF U23 Olympic qualifiers this month, David Notoane is well aware of the mammoth task that lies ahead.

Notoane named his 23-member squad to face Congo Brazzaville in a back-to-back tie from his 29-man provisional squad on Thursday, 17 March 2023.

South Africa will host the Congolese side at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto for the first leg on Thursday, 23 March. The game will start at 15:00.

Notoane’s charges will then travel to Massamba-Debat Stadium in Brazzaville on the weekend of 26/27 March.

However, Notoane reckons that facing the West Africans in the CAF Olympic qualifiers won’t be a walk in the park. He cited that they are a very difficult team to deal with.

“We know we are going to face very, very difficult conditions. Against a very, very physical and strong team,” Notoane told SAFA after his squad announcement.

“But we will be up to the challenge, looking at the composition of the squad.

“We hope that the strategy we put in place will be the one that will help South Africa get the desired victory. And to go to AFCON 2023 in Morocco.”

SA U23 MENTOR HOPING FOR A COMFORTABLE LEAD HEADING TO CONGO

He went on to state that they would love to travel to Congo with a lead that would give them the advantage to be able to progress to the next round.

“We look forward to this round. We look forward to a good first leg where we hope to take a comfortable lead going to Congo.”

Notoane believes that the SA Under 23 players he has at his disposal will be able to meet the demands of the West African side.

He further stated that different sets of opposition require different sets of players. This is because it is a norm with the national team.
