Royal AM fined by PSL

Royal AM FC have become the latest team to be slapped with a fine by PSL after they failed to provide the match officials with communication devices.

The referee who was in charge of the match between AM and Sekhukhune United on 04 March, Abongile Tom officiated without the communication device after it reportedly went missing.

Thwihli Thwahla went on to win that match with a 2-0 scoreline.

On Wednesday, PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed that Royal AM pleaded guilty to the charges.

Now, they have been fined R50 000, half of which is suspended for a period of two years on condition that they’re not found guilty of the same offence within that period.

ROYAL AM SLAPPED WITH A FINE BY PSL

“I can confirm that earlier today, Royal AM Football Club appeared before PSL DC to answer to charges of failure to provide the match officials with the relevant communication devices which had been to them provided by the league and in accordance with applicable prescripts,” said PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu.

“They pleaded guilty and were convicted accordingly. Having listened to the submissions both in aggravation and mitigation of sentence, the PSL DC fined them a monetary amount of R50 000, half of which is suspended for a period of 24 months on condition that during the period of suspension, they are not found guilty of the same offence again.

“They were further ordered to pay the costs of the DC which should, in any event, be administratively computed by the league and be added to their total bill for payment.”

AM NOT STRANGERS TO BEING SANCTIONED BY THE LEAGUE

This is not the first time that Royal AM are sanctioned by the league as they have been punished more than twice before.

In 2021, they were fined R4 million for failing to honour the PSL promotion/relegation play-offs before they bought a status.

In the same year, they were fined R1.65 million after they handed out bonuses to players on the field following their win over Maritzburg United in 2021.
