Dondol Stars chairman hints on taking Pirates game to Polokwane  |

Gauteng ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars chairman Lordwick Makhura has hinted on taking their Nedbank Cup quarterfinal clash against Orlando Pirates to Polokwane. 

This comes after the PSL confirmed the Nedbank Cup’s last eight games following the draw that was held at SuperSport Studios in Randburg on Monday evening.

The third-tier outfit were drawn against the Soweto giants and they will be the hosts of the quarterfinal tie. 

Dondol, who are now deemed as giant killers cruised their way into the competition’s last eight after defeating AmaZulu 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after 120 tiresome minutes. 

Whereas the Buccaneers advanced to the quarterfinals after a 2-1 hard-fought win over Venda Football Academy at Orlando Stadium.  

DONDOL STARS CHAIRMAN HINTS ON TAKING PIRATES GAME TO POLOKWANE 

In an interview on Metro FM [Sports Night Amplified], Makhura noted it might be ideal to bring their game to Polokwane simply because it is his hometown. 

“We would rather take Pirates to Polokwane. It’s home, it’s close to my village,” said the chairman. 

“Going into the Nedbank Cup draw, we didn’t want one of the big three teams. This is because it comes with too much attention.”

THE BELIEVE IN BEATING A PSL CLUB

Makhura further stated that after defeating SuperSport United in the last 32, his side gained the believe that they can beat defeat a PSL.

“When we played AmaZulu it was after we beat SuperSport United. So, there was a believe now that we could beat a PSL side,” he added. 

He also divulged that the respect of the players towards their coaches is one of the factors that have propelled them to be where they are today. 

“Our boys are respecting both our coaches a lot, they are 27 and 35 of age,” Makhura explained. 

The PSL will confirm the dates and venues for the quarterfinals fixtures in due course. 

Dondol are currently cruising nicely in their provincial ABC League. As things stand, they sit top of the table with 59 points, four points ahead of second-placed Pele Pele.
