‘Chiefs fans are spoiled’: Arthur Zwane

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has sensationally claimed that the club’s supporters are ‘spoilt’ as they demand more from him.

The Soweto giants have been a pale shadow of themselves. Consequently, they last won the DStv Premiership title in the 2014/15 season then under the tutelage of Stuart Baxter.

And Zwane faces a daunting task of ending their league title drought along with winning the other cup competitions.

The Glamour boys have so far missed the MTN 8 and are already out of the PSL title race.

Arthur Zwane is Chiefs’ 12th coach since 2007 and over time there has been mixed tales of success and failure.

And as they brace to take on Royal AM in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals, he is hoping to finally please the team’s fans.

The former midfielder says the club’s rich history hugely influences the supporters’ expectations every season.

For him, their insatiable thirst for dominance and winning cup titles is justified considering how the team has fared in recent times.

“I don’t blame them. They expect us to win every game that we play because they are spoiled.

“The team has a rich history and I know very well that the team has played 19 Nedbank Cup finals.

“If we go into the final, that would be for the 20th time. That tells you a lot about the team’s rich history.

“The team must have won it 14 times. So it means supporters are used to winning,” Zwane said.

Zwane has been expected to build a formidable team capable of ending Mamelodi Sundowns’ stranglehold.

Although he has not made much progress to that effect, the highly rated coach remains hopeful of fulfilling what the club’s supporters toil for.

Zwane added: “However, we know the responsibility on our shoulders. We have to win cups and as much as we are building a team, we have to win cups.

“So we will get there. We will turn things around. There are positives, we have young boys in the team.

“Some are doing well. Some are trying to adjust. Moreso, very soon we will get everything right. I think we will be a difficult team to play against.”
