Zwane – Why I Took Zitha Off After Mistake

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane said substituting Zitha Kwinika against Casric was tactical in their 2-1 win in the Nedbank Cup.

Kwinika, 29, returned to Chiefs after a sensational stint at Stellenbosch and enjoyed an impressive start to the 2022/23 season – but has come under the microscope over the last few weeks with several indifferent displays.

Sections of supporters have begun to question his role in the team and after his mistake that led to the equaliser on Sunday evening it’s likely that Zwane was looking to protect him, and replaced him with the returning Dillan Solomons at right-back.

“It was a tactical change, we still had Solly and apart from that, he looked a little bit uncomfortable, he was limping a little bit so we thought maybe he will be fine,” Zwane said in the post-match press conference at FNB Stadium.

“But obviously, he wasn’t okay and after that mistake, I don’t think he was going to be able to cope in terms of if it was an injury, so we had to make sure that we come up with a plan and we had to make that tactical change.”

Kwinika has featured in 25 of a possisble 27 games for Amakhosi this season, being an ever-present figure in Zwane’s defence.
