Orlando Pirates became the sixth team to qualify for the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals after beating Venda Football Academy 2-1in extra-time.
Kermit Erasmus opened the scoring via a fine header from inside the box after an inch-perfect cross by Deon Hotto.
Venda had a great chance to equalise via Rhudzani Thobo after 26 minutes but his header sailed passed the post, while Chaine was up for the task to deny Edmore Chirambadare from close range in the 32nd minute.
VFA equalised in the 48th minute after a horrible mistake by Hotto presented the ball on a silver platter for Chirambadare.
The game became stretched in the second half, with a header by VFA being cleared off the line in the 67th minute before Thembinkosi Lorch hit the bar on the opposite side after a superb shot.
Pirates and VFA couldn’t be separated after 90 minutes but Lorch eventually found the winner for the Buccaneers in the 113th minute of extra-time to send Jose Riveiro’s side into the last eight.
Earlier on Saturday, Royal AM beat Golden Arrows in the KZN derby. John Maduka’s side opened the scoring from the penalty spot via Ricardo Nascimento in the 33rd minute.
When it looked they had secured the win in 90 minutes, Knox Mutizwa equalised in the fourth minute of injury-time. However, Royal AM brought the victory home in extra-time, thanks to a brace by Levy Mashiane in the 107th and 115th minute.
Meanwhile, Chippa United collected their first win under Kurt Lentjies since he returned to the dugout, beating Mpheni Home Defenders 2-0.
Ronald Pfundbidzai in the 31st minute and Diego Appollis in the 70th minute scored the goals for the Chilli Boys.
On Friday, Sekhukhune United eliminated Shaun Bartlett’s in-form Cape Town Spurs thanks to goals by Victor Letsoalo and Rodrick Kabwe in the first half.
Earlier in the week, ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars proved the magic of the Ke Yona Cup is alive after knocking AmaZulu out in a penalty shootout.

The first team to book their quarter-final ticket were Mamelodi Sundowns, who defeated Marumo Gallants 3-1 last week.
There are two more games outstanding on Sunday, when TS Galaxy host Stellenbosch and Kaizer Chiefs welcome Casric Stars.
