AmaZulu defender Veluyeke Zulu says his side will not underestimate giants killers Dondol Stars after their stunning win over SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup last-32.
Stars dashed SuperSport’s hope in the first round, winning 2-1 in Pretoria, writing another stunning story from a lower division side dumping a Premier Soccer League team from the Ke Yona Cup.
The Pretoria side will now face AmaZulu in the round of 16, with the match initially scheduled for TUT Stadium but moved to FNB Stadium due to the student protest action at the Tshwane University of Technology campus which began earlier this week
Zulu, who was in the starting line-up when AmaZulu beat Tornado FC 3-2, with the lower division side almost providing a sting in the tail, said lessons have been learnt from that game not to underestimate lower oppositions.
“It is not going to be an easy game,” stated Zulu.
“We will approach like any other matches and we will take one game at the time. We saw what almost happened to Tornado, and we saw how Dondol played against SuperSport, so we won’t take them lightly.
“We want to progress to another stage and we will give our best. We are taking this game seriously, just like any other match. We want to progress to the next stage.”
Veli Mothwa, who was not in goals against Tornado with Jody February given a chance instead, echoed Zulu’s sentiment.
“These teams are very dangerous and we will treat it as a normal game,” said Mothwa.
“We are looking forward to playing against them.”
AmaZulu are one of the sides who were previously shocked by the lower division side – back in the 2017/18 season, Ubuntu Cape Town stunned Usuthu 3-2 in the round of 16, while another was Tembu Royals beat them 2-1 in the first round of the 2012/13 season.
