Social media is currently abuzz with pictures of the wreckage of a car accident that claimed the life of the Free State Education MEC, Tate Makgoe. The images show the luxurious BMW severely damaged from the front, sides, and back, indicating a high-impact collision, possibly with cows on the road.
The 59-year-old MEC was traveling in his official vehicle when the accident occurred near Winburg. The MEC’s protector, who was with him, also lost their life, while the driver has been rushed to the hospital.
Tate Makgoe was widely recognized for leading the Education department in achieving the best matric results in the country for the past four years. His contributions to the education sector will be deeply missed.
South African Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana, visited the accident scene and expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
