Powerful forward Somila Ntsundwana has called for his Richards Bay teammates to “ignore the noise” after losing their last three league matches on the bounce.
Ntsundwana says inconsistency has been the issue to many clubs this season, bar Mamelodi Sundowns, who have won 15 league matches on the bounce, a record in the league.
Bay, who are newbies in the top flight after gaining promotion last term, have stumbled of late and picked up just two wins since the season resumed following the FIFA World Cup break.
In the first round, the Natal Rich Boyz won seven, a good return, just like Sekhukhune United did last term to remain in the top flight.
Although Bay has seen positive results dwindle, they are still up there at the top, lying fourth in the table with 31 points after 21 matches.
“We have had a couple of tough results,” said Ntsundwana to iDiski Times.
“But I don’t think we should panic because all the teams, besides Sundowns, have faced this type of result, the rough patch. Some faced at the start of the season, some mid and some towards the end.
“It is just for us to be together and remind ourselves that it is not over yet despite getting those poor results.”
Bay next host Kaizer Chiefs at King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday (15:30), with the Soweto giants having their tails up after beating Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby last weekend.
But a Derby, as it is a huge occasion, might have taken a lot from out of their players and this is what Bay will look to exploit, especially because the venue in Umlazi is much more compact unlike the Moses Mabhida Stadium where Bay lost to Chiefs in the first round, or FNB Stadium.
“We want to regain our happiness, we want to regain our form again,” added Ntsundwana, who has scored three goals in 19 appearances.
“I think playing against the Chiefs is going to be tough one. But we are playing at home and we have to pick up the maximum points by all means.

“We have to ignore the noise outside and obviously people will talk no matter how good you do. We have to remain calm, do better and focus on this game.”
