Onyango – It’s One Of Biggest Derbies On The Continent
Mamelodi Sundowns captain Denis Onyango believes that his side’s clash with Al Ahly is becoming one of the biggest derbies on the continent.
Masandwana have arrived in Cairo on Thursday ahead of their Group B clash against 10 times CAF Champions League winners and record champions.
The 2016 CAF Champions League winners have started the campaign very well, having won their two opening games after beating Florent Ibenge’s Al Hilal 1-0 and a week later collecting an important 3-1 victory away from home at Cotonsport.
Onyango, who has experienced almost everything in this competition, believes it’s good to meet Al Ahly on the back of their positive momentum as the club are targeting a repeat of their double over the Red Devils from last season when they beat them 1-0 home and away.
“The preparations are going well, everyone is looking forward to going to Cairo to face one of the biggest teams on the continent. Of course it’s always a very interesting game when we play Al Ahly,” Onyango told Sundowns media.
“I think it’s becoming one of the biggest derbies on the African continent in terms of the Champions League and clubs. So everyone is looking forward and so far so good. We happy that we going to play them when we have at least six points or we on a winning side.”
These two sides will battle against each other on Saturday evening at 21:00, SA time.
The 10-time CAF Champions League winners enter the game with zero points after losing their opening match 1-0 at Al Hilal, while their clash with Cotonsport was postponed due to their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
