Riveiro – Derby A Massive Chance For SA Football

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has insisted the upcoming Soweto Derby is a massive chance to show the strength of South African football to the world.

Riveiro, 45, will not be on the sidelines for the derby due to suspension, but took part in the pre-match press conference arranged by the league and DStv.

He insisted that despite the teams coming with opposing results and form into the game, it would be a tough games.

“It’s going to be a rough game, very equal like before, like the game we played in the Carling Cup as well,” he said.

“I don’t think we’re going to see big surprise in the way to approach the game. Both teams, we’re trying to do things in our own way.

“The reality is that we’re just three points ahead of Chiefs in this moment. It’s true that in the recent games our results were better but I try to not be focussed on the results. I try to be focussed on their strengths, what they can be good [at].

“The games that we played before this one are not going to be played on Saturday.”

Riveiro also spoke about the importance of the derby for South African football as a whole, because it will be broadcast in over 20 countries.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for all of us to show our level,” he added.

“Me as a foreigner it’s one of the games or probably the only one that I knew before coaching here [in South Africa]. I think it’s going to be televised in more than 20 countries.

“We have an opportunity to offer a good show, to show how good we can organise a big game like this, how well prepared the referees are going to be for this occasion, one more time it’s an opportunity to see how serious we take football here, all of us.

“I just hope that it’s a fair game and the better team is the winner in the end of the game.”
