Junior Khanye has questioned the hype around new Kaizer Chiefs striker Christian Saile Basomboli and insisted Mduduzi Shabalala was the player who stood out for him in the 3-2 loss to Golden Arrows in Polokwane on Sunday.
Khanye says most of the players, including captain Keegan Dolly, Ashley Du Preez and striker Christian Saile were off on the day and the only positive for Amakhosi was the opening 20 minutes where they utilised their speed.
However, the Daveyton-born iDiski TV analyst maintains the said players did not come to the party, adding that he is not convinced by Saile.
“The player who was making a difference for Kaizer Chiefs was Mdu, his movement of the ball, skill, the boy’s awareness and vision. It was only him who ran behind the ball,” he said on iDiski TV.
“What about Du Preez and Keegan Dolly? We need to be honest they were off. Nkululeko we need to be straightforward the guys were off.
“You know I don’t like hype, especially around an international player [Saile]. I mean two, three runs, well he is better than the other one, not that he is good, he is better but yimbhombhayi naye.
“You can even write this one down, I’m not fooled there’s a bit of a scam there too. But he is better than that one who plays 9 because you can see his touch when he receives the ball. But there is nothing special.
“When you play for the team he plays for, because of the history of the players that they have signed before, it is understandable why he is hyped.
“There is an expectation because of people like Collins Mbesuma, Tinashe Washington Nengomasha. I’m talking about the likes of Patrick Adebanjo Mabedi.
“We are talking about people who are at a different level. So when you are an international player we are going to have such expectations. We are going to expect that kind of standard.
“So truly speaking it was only Mduduzi who was making a difference. When he had the ball there would be something for Kaizer Chiefs because he was behind the defense and in pockets.
“It was the first time I saw Chiefs play in pockets because every time [Yusuf] Maart had the ball Sithebe would avail himself and there’s always a target when he’s around. Every time he [Shabalala] had the ball it got to the goalkeeper.”
