Swallows head coach Ernst Middendorp was furious after the final whistle following two red cards for his side and heated exchange with the referee in the tunnel.
The Dube Birds suffered a 2-0 defeat, their second successive loss in Cape Town in a space of a week after losing to Stellenbosch FC by 3-0 in the Nedbank Cup last 32.
Middendorp was left incensed after the whistle as he had a big argument with the match officials in the tunnel regarding Bongani Sam’s red card.
The 64-year-old claimed that he asked a polite question to the match official but the response from the referee was not good, which ensued into a verbal tirade.
“I asked the referee in the tunnel politely ‘what happened on the other side with the red card for Bongani’,” Midderndorp said in the post-match press conference.
“He started shouting at me straight away. It’s obviously not allowed anymore to communicate with officials to ask politely.
“I actually saw just Bongani inside this scene is really open and stepped on it. Of course, we used impolite words and that was a red card.
“I think the one against one was not something also good was interesting stuff. The referee said already half-time to me don’t fight. A war you cannot win don’t fight it, don’t start. It was a bit irritating. But anyway, it’s not the reason for this [defeat].”
Swallows will now look to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they face an unpredictable Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
