AmaZulu coach Romain Folz says signing a new contract doesn’t mean anything because he can be sacked the next day.

Folz signed a new three-year deal on Friday, having been appointed on a short-term contract until the end of the season in October last year when he replaced Brandon Truter.

However, a day later Folz could not celebrate his new three-year contract with a win, losing 2-1 to TS Galaxy at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

It was Folz’s first loss at home since he took over and in 11 league matches in charge, he has not set the scene alight in away outings either.

He has won just two league matches – beating Stellenbosch FC and Kaizer Chiefs respectively.

But that was still enough for the AmaZulu management to offer him a new three-year contract that will last until the end of the 2025/26 season.

But whether he will last for that long remains to be seen as under the reign of president Sandile Zungu no coach has lasted over two years at the helm – since he bought the club in October 2020.

“If I lose the next game or the next two games, people will start talking about me being sacked again,” said Folz.

“Yes, it is the nature of football, it is the way it is. No matter what your contract is, whatever. So I said, it is one thing not to bring the performance to be ineffective to create three shots in the game and extremely blank, it’s not.

“It is another thing to have 16 shots and put two on target. It tells you that tactically going into those areas [final third] it’s not good enough.”

Usuthu next host Royal AM at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (20:00) in the KZN Derby, and the former Marumo Gallants coach expects his side to bounce back and be clinical in front of the goals.

“We know what we have to do, I expect a reaction from the players in the next game,” he continued.

“I’m not here to teach them how to kick the ball in the net. Being five yards to the goal, you should be able to hit the target. We are going to make sure that they understand that.

“Don’t get me wrong, every player we have offensively has the quality to score two goals in that game. So I’m not undermining any of them, I’m not saying they are bad players, all of them are good players.”
