Davids Took Lessons On Pirates & Chiefs Loss

Maritzburg United extended their winless run in all competitions to four games after losing 2-1- to Orlando Pirates and Fadlu Davids insisted it must be another lesson learnt for his side.

Davids had a great start at the Team of Choice, winning three of his first four matches to take Maritzburg out of the relegation zone.

However, things quickly changed as they also got knocked out of the Nedbank Cup and have picked up just one point in their last three league outings.

While results are not going their way, Maritzburg’s performances look impressive and Davids insisted they must come with similar games when they don’t play teams like Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates.

“We have to take this lessons, Kaizer Chiefs, the lessons tonight and take on Supersport and the rest of our remaining games because I believe if we can continue like this, not only against bigger clubs, any team we face we can get three points,” Davids told SuperSport TV.

Davids also questioned whether the referees whistle was blown before the free-kick that led to Pirates’ second goal, admitting his side’s defence wasn’t ready as Terrence Dzvukamanja scored via a powerful header.

“I think it was just a switch off moment. I don’t think we were even ready with our defensive structure, not even knowing the ball is going to be played,” He added

“I was actually surprised that maybe it was played before the whistle but definitely a lapse of concentration, switching off, not dropping in sync as a line to concede the second goal.”

Maritzburg remained on 21 points from 20 games, sitting in the relegation/promotion playoff spot. They will return to action on Friday against SuperSport United.
