Mike Makaab, the agent of young Kaizer Chiefs starlet Mduduzi Shabalala, has given a positive update on the young midfielders’ injury that saw him being substituted against Maritzburg in the Nedbank Cup.
Shabalala, 19, had started the last three games for the Amakhosi and shown some impressive signs of securing a more permanent spot in Arthur Zwane’s line-up.
However, he had to be taken off at half-time of Chiefs’ 2-0 extra-time win in the Nedbank Cup last-32 at Harry Gwala Stadium last week Friday after being fouled by Travis Graham in the 37th minute.
While Gravis received his marching orders after a second booking, the young Chiefs starlet tried to continue but he was seen limping before Zwane replaced him with Wandile Duba at the break.
There hasn’t been much news from the Chiefs camp since Friday, with Makaab confirming on Monday that Shabalala didn’t pick up a serious injury.
“It was a dead leg and he has recovered,” he said on Gagasi FM.
“A little bit sore, but it was a dead leg. He got caught high up on the leg.
“When you have a dead leg it’s very difficult to walk on it, let alone run freely.
“But good news is that it’s not a serious injury.”
Meanwhile, Graham apologised for his bad tackle that resulted in Shabalala’s injury and also saw his side play with 10 men for over 83 minutes.
“I would like to apologise to the club, coaches, teammates and the blue army supporters for my actions tonight. I take full responsibility for letting us down tonight. Sorry,” he wrote on social media.
