Orlando Pirates secured their place in the last-16 of the Nedbank Cup after a 2-0 win over All Stars in a fiery encounter at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday evening.
The opening five minutes saw plenty of action, with the home side having a penalty appeal waved away and Goodman Mosele being stretchered off injured after seeing his studs stuck into the pitch which was soaked due to the heavy rainfall in Johannesburg.
Snethemba Badela’s side showed some exciting inter-play after play resumed but with the conditions not ideal – neither side could carve any clear-cut chances.
Going into the break goalless was a fair reflection of the balance of play – but the second half, the side of the pitch was in a better condition, and the intensity of the game eventually caught up with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side.
While Pirates were able to call upon Thembinkosi Lorch, Thabiso Monyane and Vincent Pule from the bench, they simply had no answers.
Saleng opened the scoring from close range just after the hour mark from close range and just ten minutes later, the return of ‘Nyoso’ was completed.
After some silky touches and showcasing his full repertoire of passing, he sneaked into the box to fire home the second of the evening.
Pirates became the 11th site to book their last-16 ticket of the Ke Yona Cup.
