New Clarewood FC head coach Dylan Deane hopes to face Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup, should both sides make it into the next round.

Deane was recently appointed as the new head coach of Clarewood who plays in the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League tier and will take on Mpheni Home Defenders in the only all-ABC Motsepe tie in this round of Nedbank. They will play at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Deane, the former Cape Town All Stars and Cape Town Spurs head coach, had started the season coaching another new ABC Motsepe side, Young Bafana.

He has replaced Ashley Calvert, who was in charge when Clarewood qualified for the round of 32, while Calvert has since gone on to replace Deane at Young Bafana.

“I just replaced the previous coach in the last two weeks,” Deane told journalists.

“So I think the preparation this week, so far as we’re looking at different principles, things that are we have to play a bit differently in a Nedbank cup in which we will do in a league match.

“Also, as I said, got a very good young team. I think they understand the importance of what the game means for the club.

“I think that at the moment, we want to progress as far as possible, maybe maybe also a giant killer in the tournament. So at the moment yes we looking forward to the game this weekend.”

Deane also discussed which team he’d like to face if his new side would make it through to the next round.

“I think for me, I want Kaizer Chiefs. I think also, being a student of this game, I started watching football at a very young age,” he added.

“Being a Kaizer Chiefs supporter myself all these times. We looked up to a lot of those players.

“The coaches they had showing McGregor Rudolph Seale, Samarra Kulu, Teenage Dladla and those players is how I look a lot at football and what passion it brings to me and my players.

“A good few in and around our club when I talk to them about the past and how we could play football and football should be played in my idea.

“I’d actually love to get Kaizer Chiefs to be honest with you.”

Clarewood are now known as Antalyspor JPM Cape Town after recently signing an affiliation deal with the Turkish Premier League side but will only re-brand at the end of the current campaign.
