For DJ Maphorisa, this is not just another gig; it’s an amapiano homecoming.

South Africa’s beloved hitmaker DJ Maphorisa is in full rehearsal mode as the countdown begins for the highly anticipated Scorpion Kings Live with Friends concert.

Taking place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday, 30 August 2025, the event is expected to be nothing short of monumental. For Phori, this is not just another gig; it’s an Amapiano homecoming.

Catching up with DJ Maphorisa before the show

Together with Kabza De Small, the duo is preparing to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime amapiano showcase. It promises to unite the community and celebrate the genre’s global rise.

The Citizen was invited to watch Phori preparing for the show behind the scenes.

“Piano by any other name is not amapiano,” he said with a smile, hinting at how special this performance will be. “From the upbeat tempos that have lit up dance floors across the world, to the deep melodic tunes that soothe the soul, this is our culture. And on Saturday, we tell our story through sound, movement, and pure vibes.”

A fully involved Maphorisa is planning an entertaining show. It will feature dancers like Tom London and ensure the crowds will be thoroughly entertained.

From storytelling through medleys to exclusive live performances of amapiano classics and brand-new hits, the concert is designed to showcase the genre’s past, present and future.
