Khenyeza & Kanu To Step Aside If Results Won’t Improve At Arrows?

Lamontville Golden Arrows co-coach Vusi Vilakazi says he will step aside if results of the club are not improving.

Arrows, since the start of the season when Vilakazi and Mabhuti Khenyeza were given the head coaching job as the duo during the off season, have been blowing hot and cold this season.

However, Vilakazi, speaking in the press conference on Tuesday for the Nedbank Cup round of the 32 against Pretoria Callies at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday, was not pleased with what was written after his side lost to Royal AM over the weekend.

“I can touch on this but I will highly appreciate it if people will quote me in the way I’m speaking,” said Vilakazi, who along with Khenyeza were appointed in April last year in the caretaker roles following the departure of Lehlohonolo Seema.

“Please don’t sugar coat things because I never said anything about giving up. I didn’t say that. The question that I answered when I was asked was, ‘It was on the latter stages that, we will assess our games, we will assess ourselves as coaches and the impact that we have in the team’.”

Arrows dropped to 13th on the DStv Premiership table with the loss to Royal AM, which was their second defeat on the bounce.

Before that, they were hammered 4-0 by TS Galaxy in the previous week at Mbombela Stadium, which was one of the biggest defeat in the club’s history along with their 6-0 hammering by Mamelodi Sundowns last season that got Seema fired.

They also lost 3-1 to Orlando Pirates and 1-0 Maritzburg United, meaning they have only picked up the 3-2 over Marumo Gallants in their last five games.

That has raised concerns over the team’s overall standing, with 22 points after 20 matches played, which is just one point above the relegation/promotion playoff spot.

As a consequence, Kanu, as he is known, has opened up about the situation, if the results are not improving.

“If it comes to the push that we continue losing games, then we won’t be selfish – we will raise our hands to the chairlady (Mato Madlala) and say ‘charlady, let’s come with the solution’ and that’s what I said,” Vilakazi added.

“Not what I saw written in the media about me, which was not true. I hope even now you guys will write what I’m saying.”

Arrows have only won six matches this season, with four coming at home and two away. They are next in action against Pretoria Callies in the Nedbank Cup last-16 on Saturday.
