Zwane Talks Billiat’s Future With Contract Set To Expire

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has sidestepped talk over Khama Billiat’s future with the player ruled out of the season and his contract set to expire.

There have been suggestions that the Zimbabwe star has played his last game for the club as he is now eligible to sign a pre-contract with any club within the Bosman ruling.

Billiat, who is one of the highest-paid players in the league, and at the age of 32, there are doubts over his long-term future at the club due to his recent injury troubles and form.

While his quality has never come into question, the Chiefs rebuild is likely to be without the former Mamelodi Sundowns forward, but Zwane refused to go deep into the issue.

“Khama is a big boy, he understands these things happen in football, it’s part of the game and some of the things are beyond our control,” Zwane said at the PSL headquarters when asked about his mental space of the injury.

“The situation is unfortunate, we’re just hoping that things will change for the better. We’ve been encouraging [Khama] but not also him – [Eric] Mathoho is in a similar situation.

“He’s been battling with injuries, Nange too, Cole Alexander – let alone, recent players that have just been added to the list, senior players. So they are going through that at the moment and dealing with it because the team is offering help psychologically.

“Everything goes down to one thing, profiling players, the plan for next season. I’m not going to say who’s going to be part of the team next season and who’s not – we don’t know as we stand, as things are right now, only time will tell.”

Billiat hit three assists in the first nine league games of the season before a groin injury ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.
