Vasili Hits Back At Mammila Criticism Over PlayStation Comments

Richards Bay co-coach Vasili Manousakis has hit back at Chippa United coach Maorgan Mammila after he had criticised his “PlayStation” comments following their game against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Manousakis saw his side lose 2-0 to the DStv Premiership leaders just two weeks and compared the style of Rulani Mokwena’s in-form side to PlayStation football – at times during the first half.

His comments were picked up by Chippa’s Mammila, who went to face Sundowns a few days later and lost 2-1.

Mammila had subsequently criticised Manousakis’ comments and the mentality of other DStv Premiership coaches, who want to park the bus against Sundowns – having already made similar remarks after Daine Klate’s last match of Chippa against Downs earlier in the season.

Manousakis now hit back at Mammila for his remarks when being asked by iDiski Times about the comments of the Chippa coach.

“Listen, he’s entitled to his opinion, the glass is half-full or half-empty,” he said on Monday.

“I’m a realist and that’s why I made the comment I did and what was the meaning of the comment and the context that we couldn’t get the ball and that’s what I said.

“That’s why I said in moments in the first half, it felt like watching playstation – that’s what I said. And in the second half, there were no PlayStation of X-box comments.

“I don’t think it’s a defeatist attitude, it’s being real and the boys need to understand and they certainly do understand, because obviously there has been post-match analysis and we’ve watched that game and we came horribly short in the first half.

“But that as I said we were dynamic in the second half so he’s entitled to his opinion.”

Richards Bay will face Sundowns again in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium at 19:30 tonight.
