The DStv Premiership was not ranked among the top 50 strongest leagues worldwide, and also finished outside the top 5 leagues in Africa, according to the International Federation of Football Statistics and History (IFFHS).
The IFFHS has been publishing their annual ranking of the world’s strongest leagues since 1991, with their ranking system based on all national (domestic league and cup) and intercontinental (confederation and FIFA club competitions) results of all clubs.
Rankings are calculated using the sum of all weighted points in each competition from January to December, with the Brazilian Serie A ranked as strongest league in 2022, for a second year running.
The English Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga and Italian Serie A complete the top five.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian Premier League is Africa’s strongest league and finished in 13th place worldwide, while the Algerian Ligue 1 ended in 20th worldwide and second on the continent.
The Moroccan Botola Pro League completes the African podium and is ranked in 24th position worldwide.
Even the Sudan Premier League, in 33rd worldwide, and the Tanzanian Ligi Kuu Bara, in 39 worldwide, finished about the DStv Premiership in the ranking, with the latter only sitting in 52nd position among the 80 listed leagues.
