Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has lauded Andile Jali as the link that makes Mamelodi Sundowns tick.
Jali, 32, started his first league game since September and played a crucial role in Sundowns’ 2-1 win over TS Galaxy – a win that saw them stretch their winning streak to 13 matches.
The man from Matatiele hasn’t enjoyed much game time this season with certain reports linking him with a move away from Chloorkop.
However, Khanye labelled Jali as the link for the defending champions with his composure and ability to control a game.
“For me, I had three Man of the Match options: [Sipho] Mbule, Mshishi and Andile Jali. Sundowns was cooking in the middle today,” he said on iDiskiTV.
“Andile is a defensive midfielder but sometimes he plays like an attacking [midfielder]. He is a star, my brother.
“Let me put it this way, maybe it will sound more professional; he knows football. I don’t care who says what.
“Many people say ‘I love him’; it’s because of his talent, his brain, he is great. South Africans need to learn that you need to be able to link when you play in that position.
“When your defence is in trouble they look at you for answers. Andile knows how to cool down a game.
“What am I talking about? I’m talking about his composure. When Sundowns is playing a high tempo game, he is able to control it; he is able to cool it down.
“You can even see it in his body language when he needs everyone to cool down and he is so comfortable, whether you come from the back he’s able to play one-touch.
“It’s like he has side mirrors in [Sphelele] Mkhulise and Mbule. He is a star, he knows football”
