Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane has explained why he joined AmaZulu’s youth ranks as a coach.

Yeye was unveiled by Usuthu during a media launch at the club’s store at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Thursday.

He was appointed alongside Mbulelo Mabizela and Andile Cele to be part of the development side of the club and will lead Usuthu’s U17 side.

The project they are all involved in at AmaZulu it is called Youth Football Project 2032 as president Sandile Zungu is projecting the club having its own players from the development playing for the senior team by then.

Yeye and the others, though, weren’t appointed based on their names, but because of their qualities, as the former midfielder explains he applied for the AmaZulu development post before going through a rigorous process of interviews like everyone else.

“I decided to be a coach. I took the initiative of obviously learning so that I can be in this space,” explained Letsholonyane.

“When I heard about the opportunity at AmaZulu. Like any other aspiring coach, like any other young coach who wants to be somewhere in the near future, I applied like any other coach.

“Fortunately I went through that opportunity to go through that process of interviews and presentations – whatever that I needed to present, now hear I’m here.”

Letsholonyane‘s job with Usuthu will start on 1 February when he will begin his work to produce the players of the future. Yeye spelled out what needs to be done to make Zungu’s dream possible.

“Investing money, time, resources – those are I think for me a few of the main things that the team should do,” said Yeye, who won every trophy locally during his time at Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United.

“Running a football club, especially in development, is a very expensive exercise. Getting proper coaches, it is not cheap. Getting proper resources – just like a soccer ball, one soccer ball – it’s very expensive.

“It costs almost a thousand rand (one ball). You can imagine if you have the U13, U15, U17. At most you need about 20 soccer balls per group, it’s very expensive.
