Lentjies In Shock Chippa U-Turn

Former Chippa United interim coach Kurt Lenjties is back at the club as assistant under Morgan Mammila, iDiski Times has learnt.

Lentjies began last season as an active player on the books of the Chilli Boys under coach Gavin Hunt before he was appointed as interim coach midway through the campaign after Hunt’s dismissal (following an initial period of special leave).

As a consequence, he called it quits on his playing days at the end of 2021/22 but he was dismissed by Chippa in a surprise u-turn despite saving them from relegation.

Lentjies was then replaced by Daine Klate as the head coach and the 37-year-old was offered a new role in the technical team, which he rejected.

However, Lentjies never officially left the club even though there was a disciplinary case against him and he also took the club to the PSL DC.

This publication has now learnt that there was another twist in the relationship between Lentjies and the club, as he has now seemingly returned to assist head coach Morgan Mammila.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder will work with Mammila, who replaced Klate – initially as interim coach – after his dismissal after just seven games in charge, and Siyabulela Gwambi. According to a source, Lentjies was at Chippa training yesterday, working with the team.

After a fine start from Mammila winning all his first four games in charge, things have turned a bit sour and the Chilli Boys are now on six-match winless run, which saw them drop out of the top eight by virtue of a worse goal difference over Cape Town City.
