Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila was bullish in his response when asked about his job security amid a run of five games without victory.
After starting his tenure with four consecutive wins, which included Kaizer Chiefs’ scalp, the Chilli Boys have now lost three and drawn two after the 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns.
The winless run as seen them drop from sixth to ninth but the outspoken tactician has remained confident in his abilities to turn the tide, citing the enterprising style of play he’s implemented since succeeding Daine Klate in the hot seat.
“I’m not concerned [about my job], you guys must do the stats, there are guys with Pro Licenses here that have been here for how many months, check their wins, they are not even close to me,” Mammila said when asked by iDiski Times.
“Go and check, those Pro License guys are behind me. So be honest to yourself, not to me – to yourself, the stats don’t lie. Are there any Pro Licensed [coaches] from number one to number nine? I don’t think there’s any, go and check.
“In football, this is a business my friend, if the results are not coming, remember you’re talking to management, I know this thing – I’ve fired coaches when the results are not coming, I know that game, I know this game.”
The former football administrator, who started the season as the CEO of All-Stars in the Motsepe Foundation Championship went on to state he knows the value of the club and believes he is the best man for the job.
“I know the worth of this status, and remember is worth more than other statuses because of where Chippa is and the sponsors they have, but football does not lie, the stats do not lie – can you fire a coach who plays like this?
“Will you get a better person who plays like this? Will you get a coach who can win four games in a row – who takes a team from number 16 to number six… I don’t need to be a white person to be where I am, don’t look [at] colour.
“Look at my stats, I’ve won four, I’ve drawn two, I’ve lost three – any other coach in the PSL would stay, how many teams did the white guy lose to? Three games in a row, did you ask him this question? The answer is no, because why? Morgan is a rural boy.”
Chippa will now host Cape Town City in the league next on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium (17h30).
