Black Leopards have signed former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane, iDiski Times has been informed.
Mabokgwane was recently released by Baroka FC, but has quickly found a new home in the province.
He was let go by the Motsepe Foundation Championship side alongside Jerry Msane, Nkosinathi Ononogbu and Decide Chauke, as reported by this publication.
They were deemed surplus to requirement by new coach Bushy Moloi, who was appointed recently by the club to replace Vincent Kobola.
Mabokgwane’s service was not needed at Baroka after he was not invited to resume training with the team after a short break due to the FIFA World Cup in preparation for the second half of the season.
The 34-year-old spent three years at Pirates, between 2016 until 2019, with the Soweto giants being the runners-up twice in the league to Mamelodi Sundowns.
As it was previously revealed by iDiski Times, veteran coach Johnny Ferreira has joined the club.
The 65-year-old has signed a contract with the club that will expire at the end of the current season, according to sources.
Zimbabwean mentor, Mr Rodwell Dhlakama, who was appointed recently, will continue to work as a senior coach for the team.
It was a position he had been holding while Joel Masutha was still the head coach of Lidoda Duvha. At the same time, Masutha has swapped roles as he has since joined Venda Football Academy as an assistant coach.
Leopards are sitting fourth in the Championship with 10 points after 12 matches, with just two wins, six losses and four draws. They have not won in the last five matches now, with the club’s last win coming against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) in October.
They will resume the campaign when they host provincial rivals Polokwane City with the Nedbank Cup playoffs on 7 January at Malamulele Stadium.
