Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Aubrey Modiba believes Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos can help him achieve one of his dreams of playing overseas.
Modiba was speaking to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 83 of the newspaper where he hailed the experience and influence of the Belgium mentor.
The ‘Post Man’, as Modiba is affectionately known, made his Bafana debut in 2016 already but wasn’t called to the national team between 2018 and 2021 when he was part of Broos’ first game in charge.
However, he only returned in September against Sierra Leone, where he was on the scoresheet, and he feels Broos could potentially even help him with a move overseas in future, if he continues to perform on the pitch.
“This is a coach that has won AFCON with Cameroon, head coached some big teams in Belgium. He has been all over the world and obviously he knows people,” he said.
“I think having him in my corner as my coach I think that can help play a big role in terms of me playing abroad.
“But it’s obviously up to me how I work and what I do on the field because he won’t just say let me take you overseas if I’m not working hard and not helping the team”
“So it is up to me whether I want to get that opportunity. If it comes I don’t think I will look back but at the moment I’m focussing at Sundowns and cementing my place at the national level, hopefully something will come up.”
