South African referee Victor Gomes and his assistants will take charge of Thursday’s Group E clash between Spain and Japan.

After officiating the match between France and Australia at the Al Janoub Stadium, Gomes will now move to the Khalifa International Stadium on Thursday.

Gomes will once again be assisted by Zakhele Siwela (South Africa) and Souru Phatsoane (Lesotho), with Salima Mukansanga (Rwanda) being the fourth official.

Both teams still have a lot to play for in Group E, with Spain needing a win to secure the top spot, while Japan could also still progress with a win, and even a draw might be enough, depending on the result between Germany and Costa Rica.

Gomes looks set to hang up his whistle after the global showpiece which marks the pinnacle of any referee’s career.
