Former Zimbabwe national team assistant coach Taurai Mangwiro has joined Botswana Premier League side Orapa United as head coach.
Mangwiro becomes the fourth Zimbabwe coach in Botswana‘s elite league.
He penned a two-year contract with the ambitious club to join his compatriots Rahman Gumbo, Philani Ncube and Mandla Mpofu in competing for honors.
The trio of Gumbo, Ncube and Mpofu are attached to Sua Flamingoes, Nico United and Masitaoka respectively.
Trust Nyambiya of TKT Sports Agency who engineered negotiations between the two parties confirmed the development.
MANGWIRO TO BOTSWANA
Nyambiya said the former Harare City gaffer has a impressive Curriculum Vitae which the Orapa United could not resist.
“Tawurayi Mangwiro is one of the most experienced local coaches and he fitted the bill that Orapa United wants.
“They are a side gunning for the championship and Mangwiro’s experience is going to come in handy.
“Also the Botswana League is growing in stature and becoming attractive to Zimbabwean coaches and players,” Nyambiya said.
Nyambiya is the same agent that facilitated Mpofu’s move to Masitaoka following a botched spell at the helm of Zimbabwean giants Highlanders.
Mangwiro, a CAF A holder joins the Southern Africa nation on the backfoot of a forgettable season in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
The former Triangle and Caps United tactician was Harare City’s head coach when they were relegated to the unfashionable lower league during the just ended Zimbabwean season.
He will however hope to make instant impact at Orapa United who are fourth on the log standings with 6 points after 3 matches.
Mangwiro, however, is not the first Zimbabwean to get the Orapa United job.
Another former Zimbabwe national team assistant coach Bongani Mafu previously coached the club in 2018.
Mafu left the club in a huff following a string of poor results.
