Carol Bouwer latest celeb implicated in multimillion fraud deal

Former Generations actress, Carol Bouwer is the latest South African celebrity implicated in a multimillion fraud case.

According to City Press, the businesswoman is being investigated by the Hawks for her involvement in a R40 million tender in 2013.

Bouwer is also being investigated for a R7 million payment from the National Lottery in 2020 that was allegedly paid to her non-profit company Venalor.

It is reported that Bouwer was awarded the lucrative R40 million tender through her company Carol Bouwer Productions.

This was for the organisation of the Nelson Mandela memorial service which took place in 2013 in Mpumalanga.

It is alleged that Bouwer had included costs as follows:

• R2.9 million for infrastructure
• R102 650 for additional lighting and cabling
• R1.4 million for audio
• R501 000 for videography
• R65 550 for technical support
• R176 500 for security
• R782 000 contingency fee

Bouwer had also included a R2.3 million management fee for the event.

In addition, Bouwer charged R3.6 million for 100 000 T-shirts, and was reportedly hired by KwaZulu-Natal premier, Nonhlanhla Mkhize, without following proper procedures.

The exorbitant fee was paid to Bouwer within 7-days, and the R7 million from the National Lotteries was paid in increments between 2018 and 2019.

Carol Bouwer is one of the directors of Venalor, together with Athina Christians and Hazel Sithole.

Earlier this month, actress Terry Pheto was also implicated in a R24 million National Lotteries fraud scam.
